Joining The ILA
Membership of the ILA is open to anyone interested in international law. This includes practicing lawyers; members of the academia, government and the judiciary, nationals of Nigeria within and outside of Nigeria; corporations or associations based in Nigeria; full time students who are nationals of or pursuing their studies within or outside Nigeria; and non-lawyer experts from public, commercial, industrial and financial spheres.
Membership of the ILA confers a number of benefits from the ILA Headquarters and from the Nigerian Branch. Members are entitled to receive the the ILA Biennial Conference Report and to be circulated with other important international law materials and information from ILA HQ. ILA Members are also able to attend the ILA global biennial conferences at a reduced rate.
Furthermore, The Nigerian Branch holds a number of international law seminars and events which members are entitled to attend mostly free of charge or at a discounted rate. In the near future, the Nigerian Branch will be constituting committees to study international law topics in parallel with the ILA International Committees.
The Nigerian Branch may also nominate individual members to sit on the ILA International Committees. Appointments are made by the Executive Council on the advice of the Committee Chairs and the Director of Studies.
Individuals (lawyers and non-lawyers) interested in the study, practice and promotion of international law.
Membership fee: N20,000 per year
Corporate or organization membership (institutional members, including academic institutions, libraries, and not-for-profit organizations) of the Nigerian Branch confers group benefits on members of the Institution.
Membership fee: N50,000 per year
This membership category is opened to full time students who are nationals of or pursuing their studies within or outside Nigeria. Student Associates must provide University school name and expected graduation date. Non-Nigerians who are not attending school in Nigeria are not eligible for Student Associate status in the Nigerian Branch.
Membership fee: N5,000 per year
Individuals who make significant contributions to the Nigerian Branch, or support the Nigerian Branch at the level of a one-time payment of a substantial endowment or donation will be prominently recognized as Patrons of the Nigerian Branch of the International Law Association. Patrons are life members of the Branch and do not pay annual dues.
